James Nicholls

Experience

James has over 10 years' experience advising on insurance and reinsurance matters and defending claims. 

James has worked on some of the highest profile coverage disputes in the reinsurance sector, and has advised both cedants and reinsurers on of all forms of reinsurance contract. His reinsurance work relates to global losses in jurisdictions such as the USA, Thailand, Canada and Latin America. Closer to home, James has advised on reinsurance issues arising from liquidation of insurance companies and domestic disputes. His non-contentious experience involves drafting contracts underlying reinsurance programs (including in both life and non-life sectors). 

In the energy sector, James has advised the London Market in relation to onshore and offshore losses. In recent years the focus of James' onshore work has been in the Middle East, having advised London Market clients in relation to property damage and business interruption losses to a Moroccan solar power plant and Omani gas facility. James has also advised on oil major claims in relation to groundwater contamination in the US, and a North Sea platform loss which litigated in the High Court.
