Doing the right thing defines who we are as a responsible business and integrity is essential to everything we do.
As a leading global provider of integrated legal and business services, we play an important role in helping business to grow and prosper. However, as the only Main Market listed business in our sector, we recognise that there is increased stakeholder interest in how we do business, where and who we do business with and the level of our ambition and action to integrate and manage ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) risks into our business operations.
We already manage a wide range of ESG factors and take action in support of the ten principles of the United Nations Global Compact in the areas of Human Rights, Labour, Environment and Anti-Corruption. We are also accelerating our contribution to the delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals, as an integral and deliberate part of our business strategy aligned to the UN's 2030 agenda and a 1.5C pathway.
Our commitment to improve our social and environmental performance demonstrate a strong, well-informed management attitude and a values led culture that is both alert and responsive to the challenges and opportunities of doing business responsibly and sustainably.
The Board has appointed a Head of ESG and established an ESG Leadership Group to oversee the effectiveness of our approach and determine actions to improve our ESG performance.
As we evolve our approach in response to the changing expectations of investors, clients, our employees and of society more broadly, we will:
- Engage and listen to stakeholders through our 2021 Materiality Assessment, to guide our strategy and reporting
- Continue to work with law-abiding businesses that demonstrate responsible business in practice, meeting all legal and regulatory requirements
- Enhance our metrics and reporting of our most material ESG risks primarily on our website and through our Annual Review, on issues beyond our financial performance.
By accelerating our ambition to be a global leader in responsible business, we will utilise our collective strength as a force for good.
We believe, this approach will not only deliver greater transparency and accountability for the way we do business, it will increase our resilience to withstand future challenges and set an example to others about our shared responsibility and the role of business in society.
