Presentations where physical pathology doesn’t explain the degree of impairment or disability have long frustrated treatment providers, insurers, case managers, and most those who encounter them. But such conditions, subsumed under the rubric of “somatisation”, have a long tradition in psychosomatic medicine and psychiatry, with a rich understanding around aetiology and recommendations for management. In this presentation Dr Curt Gray will take the audience on a tour of this difficult area and offer some insights into understanding and managing such cases. Damien will then address how the courts have grappled with these cases in assessing credit, loss and damage.
